My AR-15 Build: An Update

Hello friends! I’ve been getting quite a few inquiries regarding the status of my AR-15 build, so I thought I’d write a quick update. In a nutshell, the build is currently on hold.

As you may know, I am partnering with Oregon Rifleworks on my first build. Rather than simply buying parts and showing you what I’ve purchased, I’m using this build as an opportunity to educate myself on all things AR-15 and share what I’m learning with you. Josh, the owner of Oregon Rifleworks, and I are sitting down to do a video on each component of my build, chatting about things to take into consideration, different options, pros and cons, and more. This means finding time for Josh and I to meet up after hours at the shop. Scheduling is challenging under normal circumstances, as we are both very busy. In case you’ve been living under a rock, it is currently April 2020 and things are definitely not normal right now.

Insert COVID-19.

Oregon Rifleworks has been busier than ever, much like many gun shops across the country. Shop hours have been reduced to allow the crew to keep up on inventory, paperwork, gun work, and more. Being an essential business right now means all hands on deck, prioritizing what is most important, and adhering to the state’s social distancing measures, to say the least. For me and for Oregon Rifleworks at this time, my build is not essential.

Yes, I wish I could be continuing on my build. Yes, I could go out and buy parts without having conversations with Josh, doing videos, or sharing it. But that’s not the approach I want to take right now. I am incredibly lucky to be in the position I am in at this moment. I am more prepared than most people I know. I have the means to protect and defend myself. I don’t NEED to buy the next part for my build right now, as much as I want to. The last thing I want to do is to ask more of my dear friends at Oregon Rifleworks that are already doing so much.

My build will continue when things start to return to normal. In the meantime, I’m staying patient and very busy with other things. I hope you are, too. Thanks for hanging in there with me!
